USA State Payroll Rates + Resources: State of Colorado: Obtaining a TIN + Unemployment Insurance


The purpose of this documentation is to outline the processes and requirements associated with becoming a new employer in the State of Illinois. Specifically, we will be covering how to obtain a Tax Identification Number and Register for Unemployment Insurance. 

Good to Know!

Federal Employer requirements (obtaining a federal identification number, withholding of federal income tax, FICA, and filing of all applicable federal returns (FUTA, 940, 941, and 1099-C) will not be covered below - just the state of Colorado's requirements. Registering for Withholding/Payroll Tax Account

Good to Know!

If you have already registered for a withholding/payroll tax account, skip to the next section.

You must have a Colorado withholding account if you have an employee who is earning income while in Colorado.

You should register your business before you begin withholding wages either by completing and submitting Form CR 0100AP or on the MyBizColorado website. From this site, click the Start button to register a new account.

Register for Unemployment Insurance Account

To receive an unemployment account number, you may register your business online through MyUI Employer or submit the registration form

On the MyUI Employer web-site, click on Register
