Company vs. Individual
The only real difference between these two selections is that when a contact is set as an individual, you can select a company to nest them under.
In this video, we review Contact management and the Contacts app in Odoo v14:
- What constitutes a contact in Odoo
- The difference between Individual and Company contacts
- Roll-up quick access via smart buttons to records that are for a company or their associated contacts
- Address Types on contacts, including a brief overview of the Private Address use case
- Overview of fields and important settings on contacts
- Use cases for archiving, merging and deleting contacts
The only real difference between these two selections is that when a contact is set as an individual, you can select a company to nest them under.
When adding a child contact, you can create a unique address for them by selecting an address type other than "Contact". The "Contact" address type is always inherited from the parent.
The phone number and email address, while not required, are important to have for each contact.
Tags provide more information about contacts and allow you to group, filter, and run reports using those specific terms.
The tabs and fields you see on a contact record will vary based on your database configuration and the apps you have installed.
Smart buttons operate as a way to see a count of records that are related to the record you're on, as well as a way to quickly jump those records. They will vary based on the apps you have installed.
Using smart buttons saves time when creating new records. For example, if you access the Sales app through a contact's smart button, you can then create a new Sale Order and that contact's information will be prepopulated.
Archived records, by default, won't display unless you filter for them specifically.
Archiving is better than deleting a contact when there is historical data that you may need in the future.
Deleting or archving a contact doesn't delete or archive records associated with them.
