Purpose

The purpose of this documentation is to outline the processes and requirements associated with becoming a new employer in the state of Alaska. Specifically, we will be covering how to register for Unemployment Insurance.

Note: Federal Employer requirements (obtaining federal identification number, withholding of federal income tax, and FICA and filing of all applicable federal returns (FUTA, 940, 941, and 1099-C) will not be covered below - just the state of Alaska's requirements. Registering for Unemployment Insurance

Companies who pay employees in Alaska must register with the Alaska Department of Labor & Workforce Development. You can register online at myAlaskaClick on "Register for myAlaska Account" or by sending in a paper form.
